Born in Paris, France, DJ/producer William Grigahcine, who goes by the name DJ
Snake, has taken not just the Festival/Electronic music scene by storm, but has become
a true cultural Phenom.
DJ Snake began his producing career in 2009 and, by 2012, received a Grammy
nomination for co-producing on Lady Gaga’s Born This Way album. In 2013, he
emerged as an artist in his own right with the release of “Bird Machine” featuring fellow
Frenchmen Alesia, which was picked up by Diplo’s Mad Decent label. The infectious
smash single combined beckoning bird calls and a smooth kick drum pattern, offering
the prime example of DJ Snake’s sparking the 100 BPM trap subgenre. After the record
began receiving support from fellow artists, Snake was invited to take over BBC Radio
1Xtra’s Diplo and Friends, where his clean mixing and fusion of different genres along
with the uptempo vibe of dance music blew listeners away.
In 2016, DJ Snake headlined Ultra Miami for the second year in a row, continued his
Wynn residency in Las Vegas, and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top
Dance/Electronic Albums chart with his major label debut album with Encore. “Middle,”
the first single, served as a sneak peek of the album before going Double Platinum. In
March, he released its music video starring Hunger Games’ Josh Hutcherson and
directed by Collin Tilley. He followed up with the George Maple-assisted “Talk” and the
Justin Bieber-assisted “Let Me Love You,” with the latter quickly receiving Platinum
certification and producing star-studded remixes by R. Kelly, Sean Paul, Tiesto, and
more. He finally kicked off 2017 with the Director X-directed visual for “The Half,”
featuring Jeremih, Young Thug, and Swizz Beatz.
In all of his successes, DJ Snake takes time to highlight the talents of other, as he states
Diplo did for his with “Bird Machine.” After finishing a sold out tour with his “Pardon My
French” crew Mercer, Tchami, and the mysterious Malaa, he r a 27-track remix pack for
“Ocho Cinco,” including remixes from Dombresky, Kayzo, Victor Niglio, SAYMYNAME,
and many more. The pack is said to be one of the largest in history.
With tour after tour and single after single, it’s clear that there’s no stopping DJ Snake.
Stay tuned for more hits and accomplishments from this cultural Phenom.
